SAN JOSE, Calif., August 12, 2002 – Rainfinity, the leading provider of high availability software for network resources, today announced a new version of RainConnect for Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000. RainConnect for ISA Server allows small and medium businesses, as well as branch or satellite offices of larger enterprises, to eliminate Internet and VPN outages. ISA Server is an extensible enterprise firewall and Web cache server for Internet connectivity. RainConnect provides businesses with uninterrupted Internet access by automatically detecting Internet outages and re-routing traffic, including VPN traffic, to an alternate path.
RainConnect can be deployed directly on the ISA Server, reducing additional hardware requirements such as external load balancers. Additionally, with RainConnect for ISA Server, businesses can now access two or more Internet connections on one ISA Server — eliminating the need to deploy a separate ISA Server as a gateway for every ISP link.
“By offering RainConnect for ISA Server, we are tapping into the growing market of ISA Server customers worldwide,” said John Schroeder, vice president of marketing and business development at Rainfinity. “Business locations, whether small and medium-sized businesses or branch offices, depend on Internet access for mission critical applications, and when access is interrupted, businesses can lose potential revenue and employee productivity. With RainConnect for Microsoft ISA Server, the impact of Internet outages is eliminated in a cost-effective and efficient manner.”
With the release and certification of RainConnect, Rainfinity has also joined the Microsoft Certified Partner program. “Rainfinity’s approach to high availability and Internet access is a huge benefit to our ISA Server customers,” said Nevet Basker, director of Business Development at Microsoft Corp. “The implementation of RainConnect for ISA Server allows our customers to accelerate the adoption of Internet applications that can increase productivity and improve their bottom line.” Click Here For Rainfinity's web site.
Bahamas-based Internet Café Depends on RainConnect
Each month, nearly 60 cruise ships come into port at Nassau, The Bahamas. Many of the ships’ passengers and staff depend on Internet Login Café, a downtown Nassau Internet café, for Internet access. Using the café’s more than 75 computers, Internet Login customers perform a variety of tasks online from video conferencing and portfolio management to music/photo downloads and email. Since its inception, the café has been challenged to find a reliable solution for when its Internet access goes down due to inclement weather. In early 2002, Internet Login Café’s long-time reseller, DC Technologies, discovered RainConnect and recommended the product as a potential solution.
“In the Bahamas, we often have Internet outages partly due to unpredictable weather, and other ISP related problems,” said Paul Carey, president of Internet Login Café. “Our business is all about offering vacationers and business people access to the Internet. Whether it’s to send email or trade stock, our customers depend on us for reliable Internet access. With the installation of RainConnect we haven’t experienced any outages, and with RainConnect’s Microsoft ISA Server support, we can deploy RainConnect directly on the firewall — saving us money by reducing hardware expenditures and allowing us to significantly reduce network management complexity.”
RainConnect is activated at Internet Login Café for outbound traffic via four ISPs – fiber-based cable, DSL, wireless, and satellite. The site operates on the Microsoft Windows 2000 platform, and uses Microsoft ISA Server as its firewall and cache server. By leveraging RainConnect to boost reliability, Internet Login will soon drop its wireless ISP in favor of direct fiber, saving $1,500 per month.
